Born and raised in New York, Kanika became interested in documenting life through photography at the tender age of 13, when she borrowed her mom's trusty pink camera to take pictures of her classmates. The following year, she joined the school's newspaper staff as an art editor, which gave her the opportunity to create layout graphics and write spoiler-laden movie reviews. Kanika attended SUNY's Purchase College, where she earned a B.A. in Liberal Studies.
